P P Arnold

P P ArnoldPP Arnold began her singing career as an Ikette with Ike and Tina Turner. She came to London with them to tour with the Rolling Stones in the mid-sixties and began her solo career as the first female artist on the Immediate record label under the supervision of Andrew Oldham and Mick Jagger. Her first single “The First Cut is The Deepest” penned by Cat Stevens is a soul classic as well as the Chip Taylor classic “Angel of the Morning”. Her version of “The First Cut Is The Deepest” is most definitely the definitive one. Her unique voice has been produced by some of the most influential artists of our time - Mick Jagger, Andrew Oldham, Mike Hurst, John Paul Jones, Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, Barry Gibb, Dexter Wansell, Boy George, Roger Waters and Don Was to name a few. She toured with her backing band “The Nice” alongside The Small Faces, Jimmy Hendrix, The Who, Blind Faith, The Kinks and many other legendary bands of the sixties. She has dueted with Rod Stewart on the Mod classic “Come Home Baby”. She was the support act backed by Ashton, Gardner and Dyke with Steve Howe on guitar, on Eric Clapton’s 1970 Delaney, Bonnie and Friends w/ George Harrison and Billy Preston and the 70´s saw her collaborating with the likes of Doctor John, Humble Pie, Graham Nash, Manassas and Freddie King just to name a few.

Also in 1970 she starred in her first West End venture “Catch My Soul” showcasing her acting abilities alongside P.J. Proby, Lance LeGault and Angharad Rees.

Due to the tragic loss of her daughter Debbie, 1977 disappeared for a while before returning to the West End stage as “Belle” the sleeping car in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1984 production of “Starlight Express”. It was at this time that she signed with Virgin’s “10” Records and released “A Little Pain” which was her first solo release in many years.

In 1986 she toured with Billy Ocean in the U.S. and Japan and ended that decade with her hit with the Beatmasters “Burn It Up” and K.L.F. “3 AM Eternal” both reached the Top 10 and gave her credibility on the Dance Music scene.

Her West End Theatre credits include: Jack Good’s Rock Othello, Catch My Soul as Bianca, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Starlight Express” as Belle-original cast and Erzuli in the Olivier Award winning “Once On This Island”.

Her duet with Simon Fowler on the Ocean Color Scene hit “It’s a Beautiful Thing” also reached the Top 10 and she was the support act on their 1998 “Marchin’ Already” tour.

After that tour she teamed up with Chip Taylor who penned “Angel Of The Morning” her “classic” Immediate hit and recorded the duet “Temptation” with him and performed with him on a few “live” British gigs.

She had recorded the acclaimed “Perfect Sense” with Roger Waters on his “Amused To Death” album in 1992 and was invited to tour with him on his “In The Flesh ‘99, ‘2000 &’2002 World tours”, as well as his ‘2006, ‘2007, & ‘2008 “Dark Side Of The Moon World tours where she performed the historic anthem to the delights of fans around the globe.

In ‘2003, she was guest artist on the Manfred’s “Maximum Rhythm & Blues” tour to the delight of her English fans and in 2004-5 she toured with her Spanish “Mod” band “The Teenagers” in both England and Spain.

Her recordings with legendary “Blockhead” maestro Chaz Jankel will soon be available as downloads on her web-site www.pparnold.com along with other classic unreleased recordings from the 70’s with Fuzzy Samuels and other major artists. Recent productions with guitarist, Tony Remy and her “Five In The Afternoon” duet album with Dr. Robert of “Blow Monkey” fame will also be available.

She has recorded with too many bands and artists to mention here but you can find out more by visiting her web site at www.pparnold.com

She is at present completing her long-awaited autobiography. “My autobiography is a very interesting read”, says Pat. I had planned to have it finished by now, but as usual best laid plans have been replaced by lots of recent “live” touring to raise her “live” solo profile again. The 2009 “This is Soul” full circle reunion with Geno Washington and Jimmy James was a big success, to the delight of British Soul fans. This was followed by another successful short solo tour in 2010. Digby Fairweather and his Half Dozen backed her.

She’s been wowing audiences on her ¨live” 2011 tour, receiving rave reviews from each performance.

The long-awaited autobiography, along with unreleased recordings from the late 60’s and early 70’s produced by Barry Gibb, Eric Clapton, Fuzzy Samuel and others will be released later this year to the delight of all of her long term, patient Soul fans.

If that’s not enough to talk about, she’s also putting the final touches on an EP of original works that include collaborations with Steve Craddock of Ocean Color Scene and a fabulous new track written especially for her by the maestro Chip Taylor called, “Break These Chains”. It will also include a very moving song that she wrote for her daughter, Debbie called, “I’ll Always Remember You”. The EP is being produced by her musical partner, Tony Remy.

As you can see PP Arnold is still going strong.
