MICKEY RICHARDS

Mickey Richards is a DJ/Remixer from Fulham in West London. His love of music developed early on in his life, influenced by the Dub Sound Systems which battled for supremacy at regular weekend Shabeens held at his fathers Ladbroke Grove home.

School years where spent hanging out with the likes of KG (DJ/Producer for All Saints), Bello B (Outlaw Posse/KLF) & the late Stevie Hyper, but Mick's musical tastes differed from his peers and although he gained inspiration from the Hip Hop and Electro sounds which where the main stay of the dance music industry in those days he knew there was something missing and in 1988/89 he found what it was!!

The Summer of Love exploded around the UK and Mick lovingly held the touch paper as it was ignited. He played at various raves around the country during this period with DJ's such as Danny Rampling, Farley and Heller, Von and Carl Cox. In 1990 with the help of afew friends decided to open up a record shop in London's Kings Road. Phuture Records the label affiliated with the shop was born shortly afterwards and released a number of white labels including "The Journey".

Recession and depression hit, the summer of love had turned to the winter of come downs, and Mick decided to pack up this Boxes and relocate to Lisbon (Portugal). Here he found his spiritual home and gained recognition from the countries most respected DJ's and promoters including the young DJ Vibe, Rui Vargas, to Riccardi & Belita (Portugal's first female DJ).

He stayed for a few years playing at every major club in Portugal from the North to the South and helping to change the face of clubbing in a country which prior to his visit had never held a large independent raves and where DJ's where expected to play at one club for one owner. Mick helped to change this system and reaped the rewards once again of being in a country on the verge of a clubbing phenomenon.

He returned to England to play at the opening of Riki-Tiks for old friend Cymon Eckles formerly of Boy's Own and has remained here since teaming up with Dave Jones (Dub Federation) to concentrate once again on developing his own label (Room Control Records).

He still visits Portugal every year to recharge his musical batteries to play at superclub Lux and playing alongside DJ's David Morales and Rob Di Stefano. With the excitement surrounding the Portuguese Scene at the present time both Mick and Dave plan to keep the Lisbon connection very much alive.

Mickey Richards is currently resident at 'Easyay Learia Nights' at Plastic People, run by Steve Mayes (formerly Boys Own). He also regularly guests at Pacha London.
