Very rarely does someone come along who redefines house music, and inspires others to attempt the same.
Fidel is that rarity. A man who stays grounded to his musical roots, whilst experimenting with any sound
he chooses, because he can.
East end born, west-end bred, and of Guineas/ Native American descent you could say he was always going
to have a broader mind. Every DJ has that typical story of acquiring decks at 14, was chained to them for
ten years, even on school nights etc, but most of them probably needed the practise time. Fidel however,
was fast earning respect from some of the worlds most pioneering DJ’s as an incredibly skilful talent,
blending extreme technical ability with exceptional taste- And THIS was at the age of 16, djing at the
infamous Tag Records parties. Whilst running around the club scene of the early nineties, he scored
himself residencies at places like ‘The Party’ Substation Soho, ‘Melt’ Turnmills and ‘Fish’ Soundshaft.
This work was not only due to his networking ability, it was proof that people recognised what he was
trying to do. He found himself with a following for the first time, which grew impressively throughout
his two and a half year stint at Turnmills in particular.
The next logical step was to turn his hand to production. He teamed up with a lesser known DJ (Karim)
as he was intrigued by his particular type of funky techno, and set about creating a number of tracks,
under the catchy name ‘2 Slags’. Needless to say Carl Cox soon championed their sound and regularly
featured their work on many of his published Top Ten chart lists. More recently Fidel has repeatedly
worked with one of the UK’s finest DJ’s / Producers Steve Thomas to produce tracks that are once again,
getting everyone’s attention all over the globe.
As you can imagine, Fidel began to share deck space with some of the most internationally successful and
respected DJ’s. These were the likes of DJ Sneak, Dave Angel, Junior Sanchez, Sven Vath, Derrick Carter,
Eddie Amador , Halo + Hippee, Armand Van Helden and Luke Slater etc etc. Some of these guys were starting
to become insistent that he take his career to a worldwide level, so that’s exactly what he did next.
Accepting the offers made by some of the names mentioned above, he found himself performing all over the
world. THREE tours of China (AEC), a tour of Russia, obviously repeated visits to Ibiza, Israel,
Singapore, Germany, America, France and Canada have firmly established him as an international name, face
and sound.
In more recent times Fidel has been working alongside global club brand Ministry of Sound and the crowds
at Pacha and Space in Ibiza have now pledged their allegiance to his blend of bass house and freaky beats.
If all this wasn’t enough it’s now his face that’s earning him even more exposure, with him appearing in
a photo shoots for Italian Vogue, The Face and Harpers & Queen – How many DJ’s could have that string to
their bow?
He shows absolutely no sign of slowing down, with dates confirmed worldwide, production of three tracks
taking place and plans to possibly accept his first London residency in a few years, this isn’t JUST
Fidel’s year.
