DJ ROMAIN

When I was 8 years old I found myself digging thru my mothers collection of 45s it consisted of tunes like Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Moments, James Brown the 5th Dimension mostly late 60s & early 70s tracks by the time I was 13, I was buying my own 45s with the money my mother gave me. I think thats when I got into music, I took up playing the saxaphone in high school & was also into photography. I was very good at taking pictures and developing them in my darkroom. so good that I got a grant to go to a photography colledge but I turned it down to pursue a DJ career. when I was in my last year of high school I went to an outdoor party in a park near my school the DJ that was playing was exellent, his name was DJ. Flowers, he would play two of the same records and mix them so seemlesly i was like that is not humanly possible, and that is when i took the art of DJing very seriously.

That year was 1978 which was also the year I discovered the Paradise Garage and listened to D.J. Larry Lavan I was very influenced by him as far as the music he played. but it was DJ. Tony Humphries that i felt had great mixing ability & technique. I would say those two DJ's influenced me the most. My DJing career started in Brooklyn were I was born, I played at small local clubs & private parties (sweet 16, graduation, etc.) then in 1987 I opened for the then up and coming DJ.SMASH. he was the resident DJ for an after hours club called "SAVE THE ROBOTS" it was the "most famous" underground club in N.Y.C. 6 months later I became the resident DJ. playing there for the next 6 years. Being that the club opened at 3:am and closed 10:am it was good for me because most of the club owners hung out at the club during those hours and heard me play and I would get hired for most every club that was happening at that time. Just to name a few "NELLS, PALLADIUM, U.S.A. LIMELIGHT, TUNNEL, EXIT, CENTRO FLY, SOUND FACTORY BAR" that was during the late 80s thru the late 90s. since then I have been DJing over seas to places like Japan, London, France, Montreal, Toronto.

In adition to my DJ skills I am also a producer that has been releasing music on various independent record labels for the past 12 years. My first release was on STRICTLY RHYTHM records in 1991 i did a track called 'GET YOUR THANG TOGETHER' that came out at the same time as 'Love Dancing' by Roger S. for the next 11 years my tracks have been on every label that has come out & some that don't exist any more i have also been on labels in europe such as "Yellow Rec./France, Glasgow Underground/UK, Unity Rec./Japan, Azuli Rec./London Loop Sound Rec./Ibiza, Mr.Bongo/London, Animus Rec./Italy.

In 2000 I started a label called METRO TRAX rec. the 1st. release was a track called 'Timbale Ride' and I went under the alias Sergio & Valente' but it was the 2nd release that got the label some attention it was a track called "PHILLY GROOVE" which i produced with Body & Soul DJ Danny Krivit. that record sold 20,000 copies world wide. the next 2 titles are called 'TO DA BEAT Y'ALL' & 'BODY MOVIN' feat. Phillip Alexander. The next relase was called 'RESPECT THE MUSIC' feat. E-MAN the same artist that was on the infamous mega hit "ITS YOURS" by JON CUTLER.

In closing: my natural ear for music, studio experince, musical knowledge, mixing wisdom and 20 years d.jing experince "and some luck" my future in the DJ & music busseness looks bright and promising.
